Plymouth Half Marathon and 10k for JDRF

Halford and Homes are getting their trainers on to support Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)

Helen and Leah could not be prouder to be supporting JDRF as part of Mehdi Taheri’s Team Fuel at this year’s Plymouth Half Marathon.

When Helen’s daughter, Isla was aged 7, the family were faced with the life changing news that young Isla was living with type 1 diabetes.  Little did they know that this would start the steepest learning curve they have ever been faced with, educating themselves about the condition, and supporting Isla with the lifestyle changes, living her best life and most importantly, not letting diabetes define her.

Isla, now 9, is an inspiration to friends and family in her attitude to this condition; recently becoming a young ambassador for type 1 diabetes. Isla and her family are still very much learning how to live with type 1 diabetes, and by dedicating her Instagram page to educating and inspiring other young people that manage the same daily challenges, Isla is one of many that are keen to spread awareness, educate others, debunk myths, and make people smile by sharing her experiences.

In choosing Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Helen and Leah are keen to raise valuable funds to support children dealing with type 1 diabetes and fund research to cure, treat and prevent type 1 diabetes.

While much is known of about type 2 diabetes, much less is known about the less common type 1, this means misinformation and falsehoods are often incorrectly discussed, which can, of course, have serious implications. Raising awareness also allows people that are not familiar with the condition to understand some very simple life saving information for dealing with emergencies.

JDRF have been a wealth of knowledge for Helen and her family, and so Halford and Homes are thrilled to be able to give something back and help raise some much-needed funds for the charity, by putting Helen, Leah and some close friends had the great pleasure of meeting with Mehdi Tehri of Team Fuel, to discuss some preparation (and motivation) for race day. If you would like to support JDRF for this upcoming event, please click on the link below to head to the Just Giving page – We are so grateful and overwhelmed by the support we have been shown – thank you!
